Langtou Village holds the “Festival Lantern Show” at the night before Lantern Festival in every year. Thousands of villagers and many outsiders who are attracted by the fame will get together in front of Huang Family’s Ancestral Shrine to show their festival lanterns. It is crowded and bustling. People can see various colorful flags and lanterns. In Chinese, Lantern is pronounced as “Deng”, which sounds like another Chinese character “Ding”. It implies that the people will have a large and happy family and have a good start at the next year. Thus the villagers like to show lanterns in the festival. The lanterns are mostly named by some good words such as “Business is booming” or “More sons and more money”. The fellow villagers compete publicly the desirable lantern. Some people spend much money to buy the desirable lantern to expect the good luck in the next year. All the money earned will be used for the construction of the fundamental facilities or improve the welfare of the aged.
